BIO

Egan James Walker is an artist, writer, and sewist born on unceded Gabrielino/Tongva Nation land in 2004. In 2026, he completed his Bachelor of Arts in Creative Writing with a Fine Arts minor at the University of San Francisco.

He makes art and poems and fiction about his weird relationship to gender, romances that go wrong, the 2000s emo scene, and everything and everyone endemic to California.

Egan’s passion for mending, re-use, and sustainability in both fashion and in art derives from his punk practices of patching.

Outside of his art practice, Egan loves live music, bodies of moving water, and anarchic archiving practices. Most recently, his work was exhibited in A Flag With Teeth at the Saint Joseph’s Arts Society in San Francisco. You can find him skulking around the banks of the Yuba river or in the crowd of a pop-punk cover band.

STATEMENT

Themes of gender, grief, and romantic connection emerge across my work. I draw inspiration from the 2000s emo scene, contemporary American folk music, and the online culture of the 2010s. The Sierra Nevadas, where I spent my summers as a kid, loom large in both my writing and my art. The hues and trials of the landscape captivates me: the red dirt, the constant threat of catastrophic fire, and the stunning blues of the Yuba River.

Finding or repurposing materials is at the heart of my practice. Visible mending and patching confronts the damage the fast-fashion industry is wreaking on our environment. In my personal life, I repurpose all of my old clothes to make repairs and new pieces of art. Recently, I’ve been experimenting with incorporating my mending and repurposing practices into my decorative paper pieces, too.

I love live music and being in crowds, and in future pieces, I plan to explore the idea of closeness in conjunction with loneliness and long-distance relationships.
